For the most effective pre‐employment selection process, Birkman recommends conducting a criterion-related validity study.
The purpose of a criterion study is to identify the extent to which The Birkman Method scales align to performance criteria for the job in question. In addition, criterion-related validity studies are in accordance with EEOC regulations and SIOP Principles—and legally defensible.
The process involves conducting a job analysis, collection of performance data on a job, administration of The Birkman Method to employees currently in that job, analysis of performance data and assessment results by the Birkman Research & Development Department, and finally, presentation of results with a validated selection profile conforming to legal guidelines from the US Equal Opportunity Employment Commission.
This type of profile will ensure a more accurate fit to job role and culture directly related to the organization. This profile will be more reliable and valid than a profile chosen “off‐the‐shelf,” because the profile will be based on actual data from the company’s current employees, including, but not necessarily limited to, those individuals already successful in the position.
